City Static
Every May, Columbia College Chicago celebrates the next generation of artists and creative professionals with the Urban Arts Festival, Manifest.
Students from the Radio Documentary class share a wide variety of stories. In the program City Static, from one woman taking comfort in her mother-in-law's cooking, a son trying to connect with his father through rebuilding a Ford Mustang; to students liberating themselves from their secrets.
Committing to the Community was the theme of our Live Manifest Broadcast. This year hosts Wes Adams and Lee Dickman spoke with individuals who are making a difference by volunteering their time to go to Haiti and help in relief efforts. Pilot Mark Johnson has flown missions to bring much needed supplies to the devastated island nation. He talks with Wes Adams and Lee Dickman about why he decided to volunteer his time to travel to the ravaged country.
Dr. Scott French an Emergency Room Physician has visited Haiti twice to help those in need of medical care and treatment. We were also joined by Sara Montemayor, senior program managers for the Corporation for National and Community Service speaking about the role of volunteerism in our community. Plus, Phillip Jackson of the BlackStar Project joins us to talk about bridging the achievement gap and civil responsibility.
